Accused arrested in Lohagara murder case

Nurul Islam: One accused in the case of the murder of a youth returning from abroad in Lohagara, South Chittagong, was arrested on the night of Saturday, March 18. Accused Md. Ayub Ali (36) was arrested by the Lohagara Police Station from a remote hilly area of Sarai Union in Lama Upazila of Bandarban Hills. The accused is a resident of Paharchanda village, a hill town in Lohagara upazila. After 13 days of disappearance, the body of Manchur Ali, a young man from Paharchanda village who returned abroad, was found on the morning of March 14. After the incident, Ayub Ali went into hiding in the hilly area of Sarai Union to avoid arrest. Lohagara Thana police have so far arrested 4 people, including 2 women, for their involvement in the murder of this young man. The two women arrested are the mother-in-law and sister-in-law of murder victim Manchur Ali. Chhaber Ahmad (46), of Paharchanda village, the sister-in-law of murdered youth Manchur Ali, Chaira Khatun (47) and Shalika Rumman Akhtar (16) of the same area are among the other accused arrested.

Lohagara police station SI Shariful Islam, the investigating officer in the case, said that there are two murder cases against the arrested accused, Chhaber Ahmed, and another one against Ayub Ali.

Incidentally, Manchur Ali (27), who returned from abroad, went missing on the evening of March 1. His body was found on the morning of March 14. Arrested accused Chhaber Ahmad and Ayub Ali committed murder in exchange for money at the instigation of deceased Manchur Ali’s mother-in-law. Chaira Khatun, Manchur Ali’s mother-in-law, made this confessional statement in court. This murder happened to embezzle the son-in-law’s money.
