Dhaka Bureau: Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal has ordered an investigation into all the centers of Gaibandha-5 by-elections which were closed due to irregularities.
He told reporters at the election building on Saturday (November 5) that earlier the EC was forced to close the by-election of Gaibandha-5 due to irregularities. And out of 145 centers, the EC investigation committee went to Gaibandha and completed the investigation of those 51 centers within three working days. EC Joint Secretary Ashok Kumar Debnath, head of the inquiry committee, submitted an inquiry report of 848 pages.
In this regard, the CEC said, since the investigation report of all the centers did not show any irregularity in this report. Hence the submitted report is partial. The remaining 94 centers have been asked to submit their investigation reports within the next seven working days. Once the full report of this parliamentary seat is submitted, the EC will examine it and take a decision.
In this regard, Ashok Kumar Debnath said, the commission has given a letter this Saturday morning, it has been said that after seeing the CC camera footage of the 94 centers that have not been investigated, the investigation report of all the centers should be submitted to the commission within seven days starting from Sunday. But this time no need to go to the spot. We will investigate by looking at the CCTV footage.
The EC closed the by-election of the Gaibandha-5 seat due to irregularities following the death of late Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Mia on October 12.
