Own Correspondent: ‘Today is our very happy day. The long-standing demand of the Ghatak Dalal Eradication Committee of 1971 has been fulfilled. The day we used to celebrate alone for sixteen long years is officially celebrated today on November 4. On this day 50 years ago, Bangabandhu said while presenting one of the best constitutions in the world to the Constituent Assembly, ‘Today is the happiest day of my life, I cannot express that happiness in words. Today Friday (November 04) the speakers said these things in the discussion meeting held in the conference room of Chittagong Circuit House organized by Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee of 1971, Chittagong district.

The speakers said, how much struggle has been done for this regime in this country. Today my party has fulfilled a part of its promise but nothing is written about mob rule. If they don’t accept it, it won’t be introduced, if they don’t use it, it won’t. If future generations can build a non-exploitative society based on socialism, democracy, nationalism and secularism, then my life is worthwhile, the blood donation of martyrs is worthwhile’. Bangabandhu also said – this constitution is written in the blood of martyrs.

The speaker also said, “Unfortunately, we have not kept the status of the original constitution of Bangladesh as a mirror of Bangabandhu’s political philosophy.” Two pro-Pakistani generals of the army erased the spirit and history of the liberation war from the constitution written in the blood of 30 lakh martyrs and Pakistaniized and communalized it. Wounds that we still haven’t healed. Saluting Bangabandhu’s daughter Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government for declaring National Constitution Day on November 4, we want to say – now is the time to free Bangabandhu’s constitution from the ugliness of communalism made by two Pakistan-loving generals.

The speakers said that in the interests of society, state and people’s overall security, Bangabandhu banned politics in the name of religion in the 1972 constitution. For the smooth and continuous socio-economic progress of Bangladesh, the government must ban politics in the name of religion to keep the sacrifice of 30 lakh martyrs, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and martyrs of November 3 forever remembered. Politics in the name of religion cannot be in Bangabandhu’s constitution.

The central member secretary of the 8th national conference preparation committee of the organization, His Excellency the late President Md. Awami League leader ATM Payrul Islam, the newly elected chairman of Chittagong Zilla Parishad, was the chief guest at the meeting chaired by Zillur Rahman’s former political APS writer-journalist Shaukat Bangali.

The main speaker was Bir Muktijoddha, Chairman of Bangladesh Freedom Struggle and Liberation War Research Center Trust. Mahfuzur Rahman.

Chittagong South District General Secretary of Awami League was the main speaker. Mofizur Rahman.

The special guests were Engineer Delwar Majumder, Convener of the District Conference Preparation Committee, Debbrat Sarkar Debu, the witness against the war criminal Saka, the child of martyrs in the Liberation War, Mohsin Kazi, Joint Secretary General of BFE, Professor Dr. Alauddin, Awami League leader Hasan Mansoor, Jubo League leader Helal Uddin Jubo, Asaduzzaman Khan.

In the chief guest’s speech, Zilla Parishad Chairman ATM Payrul Islam said, “Secularism and the state religion of Islam are in conflict with each other. Even after amending the constitution at different times, the place of ‘state religion Islam’ has not changed. Bangabandhu introduced secularism from his terrible experience of communalism in the constitution he drafted for independent Bangladesh after 23 years of struggle.

He also said that because the hypocritical rulers have repeatedly hurt the common people by using religion. So Bangabandhu kept religion away from the constitution. After the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu on August 15, 1975, the anti-independence fundamentalists ruled the country through communal power for most of the time of independent Bangladesh. Due to which the fundamentalists have changed the constitution according to their will. As they have been in power for a long time, their roots have reached deep into the society.

Dr. Mahfuz said, the number of 30% of Bangladeshi people who opposed Bangladesh during the liberation war has definitely not decreased now. The anti-independence people are always trying to discredit Bangabandhu’s non-communal constitution. We need to change our mentality, consciousness and daily activities about the constitution.

Public leader Mofizur Rahman thanked everyone for declaring November 4 as Constitution Day in view of the Nirmul Committee’s long-standing demand and said, ‘Seventy-one-year-old Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee has been moving steadily forward with the conviction of building a non-sectarian state for a long time. We hope that we can move forward unitedly with the aim of forming a non-communal state.’

Engineer Delwar Majumder said, “The constitution made by Bangabandhu must be freed from the stigma of communalism in any way.” Bangabandhu thought that religion can never be bigger than society, culture and nationality. That is why Bangabandhu wrote the non-communal constitution by making religion secondary in the constitution and giving priority to nationality.

In the president’s speech, Shaukat made a humble request to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to include the text of the Constitution in Bengali textbooks and create a field of regular practice.

He said, “Singing of the national anthem in many educational institutions as per the instructions of the government
