Dhaka Bureau: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the “Bangladesh Business Summit” on Saturday (March 11) with the aim of expanding business and investment in the country.
The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), the apex body of businessmen, is organizing this 3-day conference at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital.
President of FBCCI, Jasim Uddin, said in a press conference on Thursday (March 9), ‘The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Bangladesh Business Summit on Saturday (March 11) morning.’
CEOs of 12 international companies, including the UK, Saudi Arabia, China, Bhutan, and the United Arab Emirates, and more than 200 foreign investors from 17 countries around the world will participate in the conference.
FBCCI called for highlighting Bangladesh’s achievements in economy, export, and the local consumer market, as well as its investment potential to foreigners, in its 50 years of independence.
This press conference was organized at the FBCCI office in Motijheel, the capital, to inform about the preparations for the conference.
Jasim Uddin said, ‘There was no ability to bring investment to the country. Now that capability has been created. Companies like Walmart and Zara have moved to Kolkata. Now it is time for them to come to Bangladesh. In addition to Bangladesh’s export potential, the local consumer market is also growing.
He said, ‘Now 100 special economic zones are visible in the country. We need to highlight these capabilities. The government is giving great importance to business facilitation to advance the economy.’
In the press conference, it was informed that more than 200 business leaders from 17 countries are coming to this conference, including the public and private sectors. Among them are the CEOs or top-level representatives of 12 world-renowned companies.
The FBCCI president expressed hope that ministers from 12 countries will participate in this international conference.
In response to a question, he said, ‘Overall, there are some problems. These problems exist not only in Bangladesh but also in other countries. We can get out of these problems.’
He said there are many possibilities in the news about Bangladesh. Boston Consulting Group believes that Bangladesh will have a trillion-dollar economy by 2040. And HSBC believes that Bangladesh will be the ninth largest market.
In the press conference, it was announced that 17 seminars and 3 plenary sessions will be held on different sectors of Bangladesh during the three-day summit.
