Five people were killed and hundreds injured in an explosion at an oxygen plant in Sitakunda.

Own Correspondent: An explosion occurred at the Seema Oxygen Plant in Sitakunda Upazila of Chittagong. On Saturday, March 4, around 4:30 p.m., an explosion occurred at the oxygen plant in Kadam Rasul (Keshavpur) area. Five people were killed, and at least 100 were burned. Nine units of the Agrabad, Kumira, and Sitakunda stations of the fire service are working to control the fire. Besides, the injured were rescued and sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

One of the deceased was identified as Shamsul Alam. He is about 40 years old. Others were not named. On the other hand, the initial nine people have been identified among the injured. They are: 1. Md. Nur Hossain (30); and 2. Md. Arafat (22). 3. Motaleb (52), 4. Fancy (30), 5. Md. Jasim Uddin (45), 6. Narayan (60), 7. Md. Forkan Dada (35), and 8. Shahriar (26). 9. Md. Zahid Hasan (26).

According to local sources, there was a sudden loud explosion in the oxygen plant in the afternoon. It shook the surrounding area. There were people inside the plant at the time of the explosion. In the explosion, some parts of the body were blown off. They heard the news that some had been killed. Some also reported seeing the bodies of three people. Among them, 8 units of the fire service and the rescue workers of the humanitarian organization Gauchia Committee are working at the scene. However, they could not reach the center of the explosion yet.

Meanwhile, Sonachri UP Chairman Munir Ahmed said that during the explosion, an iron object fell on the head of a person named Samshul Alam, one kilometer away from the incident site. He died on the spot.

Ali Siddiqui, Head of Humanitarian Team Gauchia, said that five bodies have been recovered so far. More than a hundred workers were rescued and sent to the hospital with burns. The condition of one of them is said to be critical.

However, Sitakunda Executive Magistrate was on the scene. Ashraful Alam said that four bodies have been recovered so far. Apart from this, many injured were rescued and sent to Chittagong Medical College. There are still many inside. Work is going on to rescue them.

Officer in charge of Sitakunda Fire Service. Fazle Rabbi confirmed the information about the explosion and said that 9 units of fire service reached the spot after receiving information about the explosion at Seema Oxygen Plant. However, I still do not know the details.
