Kushtia Correspondent: Roshanara Khatun of 16dag area of Bahirchar Union of Bheramara Upazila of Kushtia and Joy Hossain of Baman Para area complained about the livestock fair. The travel expenses of the farmers who brought animals to the fair were given only 300 taka. Many did not get the money again. They have to pay more than the transport fare of the farmers coming from far away from their own pockets. This fair has been organized in a very informal way. There is bias in awarding too. Farce is done in the name of award.

Roshanara Khatun of 16dag area of Bahirchar union of Bheramara upazila said that although the government had sufficient allocation for the farmers who brought animals to the livestock exhibition fair at the Satbaria animal market of Bheramara upazila on February 26, 2023, there were several inconsistencies in the arrangement. Government money has also been looted there. Farmers have been given only 300 rupees for traveling with animals. Farmers who came from far away did not have to pay for the fair. The fair was stalled in the scorching sun. This farmer also said that he will not come to the livestock exhibition fair.

Mehdi Hasan, another farmer who came to the fair, said that the livestock exhibition at the fair is ridiculous. By bringing farmers like us to the fair, the upazila livestock officials have embezzled government money. Prizes were given to people of their choice who brought them to the fair. While some who brought animals to the fair received money for transportation, many did not. They demand that the senior officials look into the whole matter.

Joy Hossain of Baman Para said that only 300 taka was given to the farmers for traveling with their animals. I did not accept 300 rupees. The cost of travel has been more than 300 rupees. In the name of awards, we have been farted.

Sheep Livestock Extension Officer (LDDP) Dr. Enamul Haque said such allegations are not true. What is there to do to spread the news about the end of the fair?

Kushtia District Livestock Officer Siddiqur Rahman said, if the livestock officers asked the farmer to bring his goats to the fair, if he did not pay the transport cost and if the transport cost was reduced, then it has been unfair to the farmer. I will look into the matter though.

Bheramara Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Hasina Mumtaz said no one has come forward with such complaints. Complaints will be investigated, and action will be taken.
