Earlier on Friday (March 3) night, Nachima Akhter Rupa (28), the victim of the incident, filed a case against four people under the Prevention of Women and Child Abuse Act at Hatia police station. Before this, the incident took place in the upazila’s Nimatoli tourist area around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 2. The arrestee is the son of Belal Majhi of Nimatoli, Mintu Upazila.
Nachima Akter Rupa, the victim, complained and said that on Thursday afternoon, the three sisters went to the Nimatoli tourist area from Ochkhali in Hatia upazila. While exploring the Nimatoli beach, four young strangers started talking to them. At one point, they tried to rape them and tore off their sarees and blouses. At that time, local people gathered by their screams. Later, in front of local people, the scoundrels publicly snatched our neck, ear gold chain, ear flower, and 21,000 taka from our bag.
Rupa complained and said that when a written complaint was made to the police station, Amir Hossain, the OC of Hatia police station, tried to cover up the matter by falsely claiming the incident. Then he called me on the phone and abused me. But the OC was forced to take the case as the locals made a video of the incident and posted it on Facebook. The OC also threatened to release the accused, as nothing happened to us.
Deputy Inspector (SI) of Hatia Police Station Arifur Rahman said that a case has been filed under the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act. Police have arrested the main accused in the case. The accused will be sent to jail by the judicial court.
Hatia Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Amir Hossain’s mobile phone was called several times to inquire about this, but he did not receive the call. Therefore, no statement was received from him in this regard.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (Hatia Circle) Aman Ullah said that when the matter was informed to me, the OC was instructed to take up the case. But no one complained to me about the bad use of OC with the plaintiff in the case.
