Bogra Correspondent: Police recovered 430 small and large bones, including five human skulls, in Bogra Sherpur. These were seized from the bags of two passengers by searching a Dhaka-bound passenger bus on the south side of the Ghoga bridge on the Sherpur section of the Dhaka-Bogra highway at around 11 o’clock on Wednesday. At that time, the police arrested the two passengers.
The arrested persons are Rashed Khan (24), of Gamaria village in Dewanganj upazila of Jamalpur, and Bellal Hossain (26), of West Gamaria village in the same upazila.
According to the police, after the arrest, the two youths told the police that around 10 a.m. this morning, two unknown youths from Sariakandi upazila in Bogra delivered these bones to the Dhaka bus stand in Sherpur. Then they carried the bones in five bags and took them to Dhaka. Basically, they collect human skeletons and bones from different districts and upazilas of North Bengal and sell them to the students of the medical college in Dhaka. Those who supply them with bones secretly steal the skeletons of dead people from cemeteries in different areas.
Mostafizur Rahman, Deputy Inspector of Police (SI) Sherpur Police Station, told the media that the two arrested youths admitted to being involved in the illegal sale of skeletons, skulls, and bones for a long time.They sell each skeleton for 12 to 15 thousand taka.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sherpur Police Station Ataur Rahman Khondkar told the media that the police station is preparing to take legal action against the two youths arrested on the charge of stealing and illegally selling skeletons.
