Rajshahi Correspondent: Law enforcement forces arrested four people with various weapons after raiding a torture cell of a kidnapping gang in Rajshahi.
A special team of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Intelligence Branch (DB), the Quick Response Team (CRT), and the bomb disposal unit jointly conducted the operation in the early hours of Saturday (February 25).
The arrested are Arefin Ahad Khan Sunny (42), son of Jawadul Ahad Khan Farooq of the Hetemkhan area, and Mostak Ahmed alias Fahim (22), son of the deceased Azad Ali. Parvez (27) and Sabbir Sarkar (25), sons of Alam Sarkar of Meherchandi Karaitla, are the sons of Nuruzzaman.
Among the weapons seized are rifles, some Chinese axes, knives, machetes, swords, and ramadas. This torture cell was on the second floor of the arrested woman’s house.
DB Police Deputy Commissioner said at a press conference this morning at the DB Police office in Lakshmipur.Al Mamun said that on the evening of February 12, a hawker named Delwar Hossain from Niamatpur in Naogaon was abducted from Rajarhata in the city. The kidnappers took him hostage at gunpoint in a rickshaw and took him to the torture cell. After that, Delwar Hossain was beaten and demanded a ransom of two lakh taka. They threatened to kill him if he did not pay. The kidnappers released Delwar after collecting a ransom of Tk 50,000 in cash the next day. Later, Delwar reported the matter to the DB police.
Then the DB police raided this torture cell. The four people arrested in the operation confessed to the police that they used to kidnap people for a long time and take them to torture cells. Then he would collect the ransom.
The Deputy Commissioner of DB Police said that the four arrested are members of an organized kidnapping gang. They kept the abductees in torture cells and subjected them to physical and mental torture. He then used a mobile phone to collect the ransom. Delwar Hossain, the victim hawker, filed a case against the arrested at the Boalia Police Station.
