Dhaka Bureau: There was an attack on the car of AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, a retired judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
The incident took place near the BNP central office in Naya Paltan area of the capital on Wednesday (October 2) afternoon. He was in the car at the time but was unharmed. The attackers vandalized his car and beat up the security guard.
Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik told reporters that he was attacked from the BNP procession. 20-30 people attacked him because ‘Manik goes, catch him’. Then the gunman went forward but he was also beaten. Cars were vandalized. The matter has been reported to the police.
Police, quoting eyewitnesses, said retired Justice Manik was heading towards Nightingale Junction from Fakirapool junction. At the time of the incident, a BNP rally was going on on the road in front of the BNP central office. At that time, the car was moving along one lane, but after a long wait, his car was being turned around to go back. At that time, a group of people started pelting bricks at the car. When his gunman got out of the car and stopped him, he was beaten up. The car then drove away.
Motijheel Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Hayatul Islam Khan told Kalbela that the gunman reported the incident to the police. The attack took place during the BNP rally. Preparation of the case is going on in that case. Those involved will be identified and brought under the law.
