Dhaka Bureau: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that as the Election Commission (EC) is completely independent, the upcoming parliamentary elections will be free and impartial.
He said, “The upcoming elections will be free and fair.” “I have fought for democracy all my life.”
He said this when a US delegation led by US State Department Counselor Derek Scholl paid a courtesy call on the prime minister at the Ganabhaban, his official residence, on Wednesday (February 15). After the meeting, the Prime Minister’s speechwriter, Nazrul Islam, told reporters this.
The Prime Minister said that if the people vote for the Awami League in the next general election, his party will take over the responsibility of running the country. He said, “I never want to come to power through vote rigging.”
The Prime Minister said that he always fought for people’s right to food and to vote.
He stated that the EC Reorganization Act was passed in Parliament for the first time, and that the Independent Election Commission was formed on the basis of that Act.
