Dhaka Bureau: The detective police of Rajshahi arrested three persons with 56 non-judicial stamps and 10 blank checks of Tk 56 crore signed on the charge of cheating in the appointment of trainee recruit constables (TRC).
District Superintendent of Police (SP) ABM Masud Hossain gave this information in a press conference on Wednesday, February 15, at 12:30 p.m. Earlier on Tuesday (February 14), raids were conducted, and they were arrested.
The arrested are Maruf Shahriar (36) son of Samsul of Daspukur area of Rajshahi city, Shahadat Hossain (33) son of Shamser Ali of Mangalhata area of Barisal, and Abdul Aziz (42) son of Abul Hossain of Chatainviti area of Kaliakor, Gazipur. They were arrested from Dhaka’s Segunbagicha, Jatrabari, and Gazipur’s Kaliakoi areas.
In a press conference, Superintendent of Police ABM Masud Hossain said that 32 signed blank cheques, 10 signed checks amounting to 56 crore rupees, 50 signed blank non-judicial stamps, 3 smartphones, and 1 laptop were recovered from the three persons. They used to contract 13–15 lakh rupees per person for TRC appointments. However, instead of taking cash, they used to keep blank checks and stamps signed, promising to take money after getting a job.
The SP said the fraudsters used to contact the guardians of the job seekers, claiming to be close to high-ranking officials of the Home Ministry and the police. Finally, on the basis of the information provided by a job seeker’s father, the detective police started working on the matter and arrested three people. A Rajshahi politician is involved with the gang. Attempts are being made to bring him under the law. However, the arrested have been charged in Rajshahi’s Puthia police station. ABM Masud Hossain also said that they will be remanded for questioning. District police officials were present at the press conference.
