Ejazul: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), the largest unit of Bangladesh Police, is entering 48 years after completing 47 years of glorious service. The 48th foundation day of DMP is being celebrated on Saturday (February 11) with various ceremonies.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) was formed on February 1, 1976 with 12 police stations and 6,500 personnel. 47 years have passed since then. DMP has entered in 48 years. 12 police stations have now become 50 police stations and 34 thousand manpower in DMP. DMP was formed under the motto “Peace Pledge”. DMP did not have any touch of modernity during its establishment. In the current era of modernization, new units are gradually formed to fight and prevent crime.
At present DMP has 57 divisions and 50 police stations. 1 police commissioner, 6 additional police commissioners, 12 joint police commissioners, 57 deputy police commissioners, including about 34,000 policemen are working.
Various steps have been taken to develop DMP into a modern, efficient and people-friendly force. DMP’s success in combating narcotics, militancy and terrorism has been praised worldwide. Timely and effective measures like community policing, beat policing and yard meetings have been taken to increase public participation.
On the occasion of the 48th Foundation Day, DMP Commissioner Khandkar Ghulam Farooq greeted and congratulated the people of the city. Apart from this, the President, Prime Minister, Home Minister, Senior Secretary of Public Security Department, IGP and DMP Commissioner gave separate messages on the occasion of the establishment day of DMP.
On the occasion of the establishment day, the 48th establishment day program of Dhaka Metropolitan Police will begin with a colorful procession on Saturday at 3 pm. Policemen of all levels including senior officers of DMP will participate in the procession. The Home Minister will officially inaugurate the Foundation Day by cutting the cake at 4 pm.
