Gaibandha Representative: Md. Abdul Mannan 65 years old.a helpless man. spent most of his life selling labor. Even at such an age, he did not get a holiday. The old man makes a living by selling Khili Pan in a small shop in the local market. Even though I have come so far in life, I have never had the opportunity to learn. But the store’s accounting made him realize that there was no alternative to education. Thus, at an advanced age, grandson Mahfuzar Rahman’s son enrolled in primary school with granddaughter Kawsar Ali (5).

Abdul Mannan is the son of the late Tachim Uddin of Kashiabari village in the Kishoregari union of Gaibandhar’s Palashbari upazila. He is currently in first grade at Kashiabari Government Primary School.

Following an investigation, it was discovered that Abdul Mannan regularly attends school while holding the hand of his grandson’s son and carrying books and notebooks. There, he is studying with young students in the classroom. His roll number is 37 in the class.

Relatives said that Abdul Mannan was the third of six brothers and one sister in a family of poor parents. There was always a shortage in the world. He had to make a living by eating wheat rice, parar chathu, and boiled jackfruit. They never got the opportunity to study. Abdul Mannan has worked in other people’s houses and lands like his father since childhood. The whole day’s labor was sold for 1 to 2 taka, or 1 kg, of rice. After that, he drove a pedal-powered rickshaw van for two consecutive years. At some point, old age takes root in the body. Desperate, he started selling betel leaves in small shops in the market to make a living.

Abdul Mannan got married at the age of 17. He is the father of two daughters named Maleka and Jannati, and a son named Momirul. I married two daughters long ago. Son Momirul Palashbari will give a graduation exam from the Government College. The eldest daughter’s son, Mahfuzar, grew up and married. His son’s name is Md. Kawsar Ali. about Abdul Mannan’s grandson. He studied in the same class with him.

When asked about the reason for going to school at such an old age, Abdul Mannan said, “The remaining half of the total sales in the village shop are done in the village.” It is not possible to remember so many accounts by word of mouth in old age. From there, I felt a strong need to write down the rest of the transaction. I was forced to follow the headmaster of the school. I am very happy to finally get admission to the school.

He also said, “I go to school every morning.” After the holidays, I sit in the shop and do business.

Kashiabari Government Primary School Headmaster Md. Moniruzzaman Mithun Mondal said, “Bean shopkeeper Abdul Mannan is a pious man.” He had been requesting admission to the school for a long time. Following his request, he was admitted to the first class of the current academic year. He also received a new book.

He also said, “He regularly comes to school with books in hand and is studying in the same class as young children.” He impressed everyone with his manners. His classmates are studying with joy.

Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Kamruzzaman Nayan said, “Even though it was very late, Abdul Mannan was able to realize the need to study.” Since he is willing to learn, that is very good. If he can learn to read and write by himself at this age, it will be useful for him. It is a very good initiative on his part, and it will be instructive for others as well.
