Sitakunda representative: There is an association of CNG-powered autorickshaw owners in the Sitakunda municipal area of Chittagong. Although the purpose of the organization is to talk about the various interests and rights of the drivers and owners, it is reported that one leader has committed a terrible act. He and his three followers demanded a contribution of 5000 taka from a driver, as he did not belong to the association. Auto driver Ekram Hossain had to die due to his inability to fulfill their demands. Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Chittagong officials organized an exhibition with the accused at the scene yesterday after uncovering the mystery of the murder four months ago.
Prior to this, four people, including Noor Ahmed, the organizing secretary of Sitakunda town’s CNG-driven auto-rickshaw owner association, were arrested for their involvement in the murder on January 25. The company produced them in court and remanded them. However, for the sake of investigation, this information was kept secret until now. Nazmul Hasan, Police Superintendent of PBI Chittagong, stated this at a press conference held at the scene of the accused’s demonstration yesterday.
The arrested accused are Jahed Hossain, son of Tajul Islam of ward number 6 of the municipality; Noor Ahmed, son of Mohammad Zafar of Madhyam Mahadevpur village; Mostafizur Rahman alias Shakib, son of deceased Azgar Ali of Teli Bazaar area of Madhyam Mahmudabad; and Ismail Hossain alias Rana, son of Ruhul Amin of North Mahmudabad and Samji Mollabari. Other car drivers, aside from Noor, are among them.
PBI official Nazmul said that miscreants stopped Ekram’s autorickshaw in front of the fire station adjacent to the IPSA office on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Sitakunda on September 4 last year. At this time, the driver got out of the car and explained the consequences of not paying the subscription! Moreover, they stabbed him and left him on the road. He was rescued and taken to the hospital, where the doctor declared him dead. The day after the incident, the victim’s brother, Nurul Huda, filed a case at the Sitakunda police station. PBI Chittagong SI Shahadat Hossain investigated the matter along with Thana police.
The investigating officer in the case said that the accused were taken to the spot by uncovering the mystery of this murder without clues. The people present show how they killed Ekram there. Through this, a message has been given to the people. No matter who the killer is, there is no exemption. Hopefully, those who watch the show will at least think about the consequences before committing any crime.
Ashraful Alam, President of the Autorickshaw Owners Association, called several times on his mobile phone to inquire about this, but he did not receive it. However, Shaha Alam, the finance secretary of the organization, said that Noor Ahmed had not been involved in such work before. We are shocked to hear this. The incident should be properly investigated. If they are really involved, appropriate legal action should be taken. But no innocent person should be victimized.
