According to the statement and investigation of the case, on January 17, Sonakania UP Chairman Jasim came under the fire of the local people after an incident in Sugandha Community Center area of Ward No. 2 of Satkania Municipality. Later the police went to the spot and rescued the chairman. On that day, a report was published in the online portal Chittagong Sangam titled ‘Sonakania chairman beaten up by locals, hides under the table for self-defense’. When the chairman protested the news, the online newspaper published the protest script. However, Chairman Jasim filed a case under the Digital Security Act on January 19, calling the news false and defamatory. Syed Akkas Uddin, Abdul Alim and Salim Chowdhury were accused in this case.
Names of unknown Facebook IDs named Sonakania Revolutionary Janata and Satkania Protest Janata are also mentioned in the case as defendants. Later Chairman Jasim published a video of his interview on an online portal. In the interview, he is heard to say, ‘Since I became the chairman, people do not go to the assistant judge court. Sonakania Union Parishad is the trusted address of the people for all types of arbitration and land litigation.
When this statement spread on Facebook, lawyers working in Satkania came into view. This created anger among the lawyers. In this regard, assistant judge working in Satkania court. Rashedul Islam said that a UP Chairman can perform every work under the purview of the Union Parishad, it is in accordance with the law. But the people must come to the court for every trial related to land. It is beyond the jurisdiction of the chairman. The statement made by the chairman is a complete contempt of court. In view of this, a demonstration was held today (Thursday) at Satkania Assistant Judge Court Road at around 11 am in protest of the said case and contempt of court.
The general secretary of the Satkania Lawyers Association Ed. Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury (Cochir) said that the video message given by Chairman Jasim on an online portal is completely illegal. He (Chairman) said, he is explaining to the people himself by looking at the documents and measuring the land. This is illegal speech. He cannot do civil court work himself. In this case, he wants to prove his greatness by taking a clear look at the honorable court. The lawyers will be forced to approach the court against the chairman if he does not apologize to the court by withdrawing this statement.
