Dhaka Bureau: The last Deputy Commissioner (DC) conference of the Awami League government will begin on Tuesday, January 24. The conference will end on January 26. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the conference. The conference will discuss 245 proposals in 20 working sessions.
Sunday (January 22) at the press conference on the Deputy Commissioner Conference 2023, Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain informed this information.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the DC Conference at Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office on Tuesday at 10 am.
Like last year, the main venue of the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference is Osmani Smriti Auditorium in the capital. DC conference is organized every year to provide face-to-face exchange of views and necessary guidance between government policy makers and district administrators.
The Cabinet Secretary said, this year’s conference is being held for three days. The last conference was also three days long. This time, apart from meeting and receiving instructions from the President at Bangabhaban, the Deputy Administrators will also meet, receive instructions and exchange views with the Speaker and the Chief Justice of Bangladesh. Moreover, a session on military-civilian coordination has been attached with the Armed Forces Department and the Defense Ministry.
He said that there will be a total of 26 sessions in this conference. Among them 20 working sessions with various ministries and departments. Apart from this, there will be an inauguration ceremony, one with a courtesy meeting with the President, one with a courtesy meeting with the Speaker and two sessions with a courtesy meeting with the Chief Justice and other formalities.
Mahbub Hossain said that a total of 56 ministries and departments will participate in the conference. Ministers, advisers, state ministers, deputy ministers, senior secretaries and secretaries will be present in the working sessions as representatives of ministries and departments.
The Cabinet Secretary said that 245 proposals have been received from the Deputy Commissioners and Divisional Commissioners on the occasion of the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference. This year, the highest number of proposals have been received regarding the health care department, 23 proposals related to this ministry. After that, there were more proposals related to Ministry of Land (15 proposals) and Ministry of Water Resources (13), Security Services Department (11), Housing and Public Works Ministry (10).
Highlighting the main topics discussed in the DC conference, the Cabinet Secretary said, strengthening the activities of local government institutions; land management; improvement of the law and order situation; Disaster management, relief and rehabilitation activities; Implementation of job creation and poverty alleviation programs at the local level; Implementation of social safety net programs; Use of information and communication technology and e-governance; Improving and expanding the quality of education; Health care and family welfare; Environmental protection and pollution prevention; Development of physical infrastructure and monitoring and coordination of implementation of developmental activities. These issues will be discussed.
He said, through this conference, the district administrators will get to know what message they will return to the field level through you. Through this conference, new momentum will be transmitted in the field level activities in the administration of the country.
In response to a question about the last conference before the national elections, the Cabinet Secretary said that the administration has cooperated in all the elections that have taken place in the country. Our position on elections is clear. We have tradition and experience in electoral cooperation. We will use that tradition and experience. We will fully cooperate in the elections.
In response to a question about the DC conference budget, he said, “I don’t have that information at the moment.” But you can rest assured that we will cut costs.
