DHAKA BUREAU: World Bank Managing Director (Operations) Axel van Trotsenberg is coming to Bangladesh on his first visit tomorrow, Saturday.
A World Bank press release said that Van Trotsenbaug will attend a three-day visit on January 22 to mark 50 years of partnership between Bangladesh and the World Bank Group and to mark the country’s remarkable development achievements.
In the announcement, Trotsenberg said, “Bangladesh has shown the world what can be done to successfully reduce poverty through successful innovation in human development, women’s empowerment and climate adaptation.”
He said, “The World Bank is proud of its 50-year partnership with Bangladesh and being a part of the country’s remarkable development journey.” I am looking forward to witnessing these achievements firsthand during this visit.”
During his visit, Van Trotsenberg will meet Bangladesh’s Prime Minister, Finance Minister and other senior government officials, development partners including civil society representatives and visit World Bank-supported projects.
World Bank Vice President for South Asia Region Martin Riser will accompany him on this visit.
