Dhaka Bureau: US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu said that positive discussions have been held with Bangladesh government regarding RAB. He made this comment in response to questions from journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (January 15) afternoon.
Earlier, he held a meeting with Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and Foreign Secretary Masood Bin Momen in the ministry. After the meeting they faced the media.
Referring to RAB’s remarkable progress in reducing the number of extrajudicial killings, he further said, ‘If you look at the statement of Human Rights Watch, you will see that RAB’s remarkable progress in reducing the number of extrajudicial killings has been acknowledged. We also acknowledge this progress. It is a remarkable work. This proves that RAB is doing a good job in maintaining law and order and suppressing terrorism by upholding human rights.
Donald Lu said there was an excellent discussion on the Indo-Pacific Strategy (IPS). It is not a club, but a strategy.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen said, “We have had a constructive discussion on the progress of the relationship between Bangladesh and the United States.” There was a discussion on how to move the relationship forward for the next 50 years. If we have a problem with something, we will discuss it. If constructive suggestions come, we will certainly accept them. We have shown a sample of this.
