Lohagara Correspondent: On the 51st anniversary, the Great Victory Day was celebrated with due dignity in Lohagara on December 16. As soon as the sun rises, the Lohagara upazila administration initiated the Great Day by firing 31 cannons. After that, Lohagara Upazila Administration, Thane Police Administration and Mukti Jodha Sangsad paid tributes to the Shahid Minar in the Upazila Parishad ground in memory of the martyrs. In addition, there was a ceremonial hoisting of the national flag at Shahpir Pilot High School ground in Lohagara. Parade displays and sports events organized by various educational institutions including Police, Ansar VDP, Fire Service Scouts were part of the day-long programme.
Lohagara Upazila Parishad Chairman Ziaul Haque Chowdhury Babul, Upazila Executive Officer Sharif Ullah, Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Atiqur Rahman and Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad Commander Bir Muktijoddha Akhtar Ahmad Sikdar were present in the parade. Among others, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Shahjahan, Liberation War Group Commander Mustafizur Rahman Chowdhury, Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman M Ibrahim Kabir, Jasmine Akhter, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Md Hanif, and upazila administration departmental officers are heroic freedom fighters and journalists. Representatives were present on the occasion.
On the occasion of Great Victory Day, Lohagara Press Club, Lohagara Upazila Awami League and various institutions and social organizations paid tribute to the martyrs at Shaheed Minar at 10 am.
At 11:30 a.m., a reception ceremony was held at the upazila public hall for the brave freedom fighters and the family members of the martyrs. On this occasion, brave freedom fighters and family members of martyrs were felicitated with flowers. The upazila executive officer, upazila freedom fighter commander and group commander during the liberation war spoke at the event.
At 6 in the evening, a discussion and cultural program was held at Upazila Public Hall on the theme of capturing the spirit of liberation war and maximum use of digital technology in Sonar Bangla Birniman, the dream of the father of the nation. Upazila Executive Officer Sharif Ullah, Upazila Muktijoddha Commander Bir Muktijoddha Akhtar Ahmed Sikdar and Press Club President Bir Muktijoddha Nurul Islam spoke on the occasion. The cultural event was conducted by Virmuktijodha Rafiq Didar.
