Gaibandha correspondent: 4 people, including the driver of a CNG-powered autorickshaw, were killed in a passenger bus crash at Palashbari in Gaibandha. At this time, 2 more people were injured.
The accident took place on Thursday (December 15) around 7:30 a.m. in the Dakghar-Mazhipara area of the Gaibandha-Palashbari road.
The deceased are Tulsighat Durgapur village of Gaibandha Sadar upazila. Shalam Mia’s son Shamim Mia (35), his wife Shimu Sarkar (30), Shakil Mia (25) of Khamar Jamila village of Palashbari upazila and Nurul Islam (45), son of Najal Haque of Bhatpara Gopalpur village of Ramchandrapur Union, Gaibandha Sadar Upazila, driver of CNG autorickshaw. Shakeel Mia Shamim Mia’s niece.
Police and eyewitnesses said that in the morning, a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw was heading towards Palashbari from Gaibandha. On reaching Dakghar-Mazhipara area on the way, a Shanekhoda Paribahan bus heading from Dhaka to Gaibandha hit the autorickshaw and ran away. 3 autorickshaw passengers were killed on the spot. CNG auto rickshaw driver Nurul Islam died on the way to Gaibandha district hospital with two seriously injured people including the auto driver.
Palashbari Fire Service in-charge Moshiur Rahman confirmed the identity of the 4 people who died in the accident and said that 3 bodies have been recovered from the scene after receiving information. The body of the CNG autorickshaw driver was taken to his home.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Palashbari Police Station. Masud Rana said that the process of handing over the dead bodies to the families is underway. He also said that efforts are being made to identify the killer bus.
