Dhaka Bureau: The Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said that BNP has received the resignation letter of 7 members of Parliament. He told this to reporters on Sunday (December 11) afternoon.
But among them, Harunur Rashid has sent his resignation by email, his signature has been scanned and affixed. It will not be accepted, he will have to submit his resignation again, said Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury
He said, “I have received the resignation letter of 7 members of parliament of BNP. 5 of them came on their own. One of the remaining two is sick, the other is abroad.
Referring to the relevant section of the constitution, the Speaker said, “There is no obligation to come and submit the resignation letter in person. The seats of the 5 who have submitted their resignations have become vacant. The signatures of the remaining two petitions will be verified and the Parliament Secretariat will inquire whether they have sent the resignation letter or not. But Harunur Rashid has sent his resignation letter by e-mail, his signature has been scanned and affixed. It will not be accepted, he will have to submit his resignation letter again.’
It is to be noted that seven parliamentarians of BNP announced their resignations from the National Assembly at the BNP Dhaka divisional mass meeting at the capital’s Golapbag field on Saturday. After that, 5 parliamentarians of BNP went to the speaker of Sasri and submitted their resignations this morning. BNP put forward 10-point demands in the rally.
