Paddy harvester drowned in river in Lohagara

Lohagara Correspondent: Syed noor Sikdar (37), a daily laborer of paddy cutting, died after drowning in the deep water of Tongavartir river in Lohagara, South Chittagong. At 10 o’clock in the morning on Friday, December 9, he was crossing the river on foot and carelessly fell into a hole in the river. The incident took place in the upazila’s Kalauzhan Shah Rashidia madrasa on the north side of the Tongavarti river.

The said paddy worker is said to be the son of Abdul Quader of Kutubzone Mukhagacha area of Maheshkhali Upazila of Cox’s Bazar. Kalauzan UP member Bashirul Alam Farid said that he drowned in deep water while crossing the river on foot from Charamba area of Sikdar Upazila. Some local women saw the incident from a distance. With their brave shouts, the local people came forward and rescued him. He was later found dead.

According to a source, Syednoor Sikdar Aman came to Lohagara from Maheshkhali at least 15 days ago to harvest paddy during the harvest season. Worked here for several days harvesting rice in Charamba area. He was returning home after work. In the end he returned home as a dead body.

Officer-in-charge of Lohagara police station Atiqur Rahman said that the body of the laborer was brought to the police custody of Lohagara police station.
