Dhaka Bureau: Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sh M Rezaul Karim said that fish, meat, milk, eggs are a major part of food. If they are not produced, there would be food shortage in the country. There was a crisis in the supply of nutrition and food.
The minister said this while addressing the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the 5-day induction course for newly inducted officers of the 40th BCS (Livestock) and BCS (Fisheries) cadre at the BCS Livestock Academy Auditorium in Savar on Thursday (December 8).
At that time, the minister also said that if the fisheries and livestock sector was not developed, we would have to depend on foreign countries. Fish had to be imported. Cattle had to be imported from India-Myanmar to meet the demand for sacrifices. Now we are not foreign oriented. Bangladesh is one of the three countries that have done well in fish production recently. Livestock sector has also undergone revolutionary changes. Now fish of Bangladesh is exported to more than 50 countries of the world. Some countries are starting to export meat. In this sector, international standard quality control testing and research laboratories have been created in the country.
He also said that the fisheries and livestock sectors are keeping the rural economy running. This sector is eliminating unemployment. Creating entrepreneurship. Increasing export earnings.
Addressing the newly appointed officials, the minister also said that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure the fundamental rights of citizens. That right must be guaranteed. Citizens of the state have to work as servants. For the sake of the country, for the sake of the people, the highest development of talent should be done.
The chief guest also added that the fisheries and livestock sector is one of the partners in the unstoppable progress of the country’s development. This sector is being brought under digital management. The captains of that system are the Fisheries and Livestock Officers. They are the artisans of building digital Bangladesh, prosperous Bangladesh, modern Bangladesh.
Addressing the new officers, the minister further added that Digital Bangladesh has been established today with the spirit of liberation war in a non-communal state system. Still there is a class who want to destabilize the country, destroy the state system, bring back communalism. Never be confused by those people. Those who want to disrupt the strong conviction to move forward in the spirit of the liberation war, must be careful.
