1 killed in Police-BNP clash in Nayapaltan

Dhaka Bureau: One person was killed in a police clash with BNP leaders and activists in Nayapaltan of the capital. Initially, it was known that the deceased person’s name is Maqbul Ahmed. However, it is not yet confirmed whether he is a BNP worker or not. Maqbul was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a bloody state and declared dead by the doctor on duty.

Dhaka Medical College (Dhamek) Hospital Police Outpost Incharge (Inspector) Bachchu Mia confirmed this information to Ittefaq Online. He said, one person was brought to Dhame with a bullet wound from Nayapaltan. Later the doctor on duty declared him dead. The body of the deceased has been kept in the morgue.

According to hospital sources, eight people injured in Nayapaltan clash were brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital till 4:30 pm. Maqbool died among them. Of the rest, the names of four have been found, they are Roni, Monir, Anwar Iqbal and Khokon.

Meanwhile, two BNP leaders have been arrested in Nayapaltan clash with the police. On Wednesday afternoon, BNP campaign secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and former general secretary of Swachhasebak Dal Abdul Quader Bhuiyan Jewell were arrested.

Before this, the leaders and activists of various regions of the capital began to gather around the Dhaka Metropolitan Mass Rally of BNP from the morning of Wednesday (December 7) to December 10. On the other hand, security has been strengthened in the BNP central office and its surrounding areas since morning. As the day wore on, more police were deployed in the area.

BNP leaders and activists suddenly attacked the police car around 2:30 am. They also attack the general transport. At that time, the police tried to calm down the situation and at one stage, the BNP leaders and workers threw brickbats at the police. At least half a hundred people including journalists, BNP activists and passers-by were injured when the police threw tearcells. Traffic has been stopped in the area due to this incident.
