Dhaka Bureau: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandkar Golam Farooq said that no rally will be allowed on the streets except in open ground. He said this to the media on Monday (December 5) about the BNP’s Dhaka division mass meeting on December 10. He said, “They (BNP) have been allowed to hold a rally in Suhrawardy Udyan.”
In response to the question whether he has received any proposal from the BNP for an alternative venue for the mass meeting, he said, ‘So far we have not received any proposal for an alternative venue. Assembly has been allowed in Suhrawardy Udyan.’
Yesterday Sunday (December 4) afternoon, a delegation of BNP met with the DMP Commissioner to discuss the Dhaka divisional mass meeting on December 10. It is said that there is a third place outside Nayapaltan and Suhrawardy Udyan.
The delegation included Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Convener Abdus Salam, Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Convener Amanullah Aman, Central Joint Secretary General Moazzem Hossain (Alal), Central Publicity Secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury (Anni) and Organizing Secretary Abdus Samad Azad.
On the police side, Harun Or Rashid, Chief of Detective Police (DB) of DMP and Deputy Commissioner of Motijheel Division Hayatul Islam Khan and two other officers were present.
