The Crime Desk: at Baklia Police Station has arrested two women named Rozina Begum (40) and Tasnubha Begum (22) after recovering stolen gold ornaments and mobile phones from their houses. The Chittagong Metropolitan Police confirmed this information in a press release sent to the media on Monday.
Police said that Rozina Begum and Tasnubha Begum roam around different parts of the city in search of work. They carry a bag with them. If they get a job as a domestic worker, they take it. They are basically members of a gang of thieves. And if they do not get work, their ‘target’ is a locked house. The bag they carry contains tools to break the lock.
Last Sunday afternoon, the two were caught by the police after targeting an empty house in Al-Madina Bhaban of Safe Housing-2, Dewan Bazar No. 1, Baklia Police Station in the city and looting gold ornaments and mobile phones. The owner of the house filed a case with Baklia Police Station in this incident.
According to police sources, at around 1:15 pm on Sunday, the plaintiff’s wife, Sumaiya Akter Nupur, and aunt, Bulu Begum, locked the house and went shopping in Teribazar. When they returned home, they found that the lock of the steel cupboard in the bedroom was broken and clothes and shoes were scattered inside the room. They then called the emergency service, 999, and informed the police.
Baklia Police Station said that after the case was filed, Rozina and Tasnuva were arrested after reviewing the CCTV footage of the area and questioning them. During questioning, they confessed to their involvement in the incident.
A pair of gold earrings weighing 5 annas, a pair of gold earrings weighing 4 annas, a gold ring weighing 2 annas, a Redmi Note-9 mobile phone stolen from the custody of Rozina Begum, and a lock-breaking tool inside a cloth bag used in the incident were recovered.
Police said that they entered the empty house using lock-breaking tools and stole gold ornaments and mobile phones. They have been sent to court in a case filed by the homeowner.
