Anwara Correspondent: An angry mob has burnt down the houses of the accused involved in the murder of a young man named Mohammad Manik (32) in a dispute over drug money in Anwara.
On Tuesday (March 18) night, the houses of Hashem Vender and Kar Mia in Parikoda Union were vandalized and set on fire.
Several locals, who did not want to be named, said that after 7 pm on Tuesday, after the funeral prayers for the body, the angry mob vandalized and set fire to the houses of accused Md. Russell (36) and Md. Nayan (32), involved in the murder of Mohammad Manik (32).
According to local sources, both the deceased Mohammad Manik (32) and Md. Russell (36) were involved in drug trafficking. In addition, the accused Russell is also known to be an active worker of the Jubo League.
Regarding the fire, Anwara Fire Service Officer Md. Yusuf said, After receiving the news of the fire, our force went to the spot and brought the fire under control. An estimated Tk 5 lakh in damage and Tk 2 lakh worth of goods were recovered in the fire.
Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station Md. Monir Hossain said, after hearing about the incident of burning the house, the police went to the spot and brought the situation under control. Additional police have been deployed at the spot to avoid all kinds of chaos.
It is worth mentioning that on Monday (March 17), at around 9:30 pm, Md. Russell (36), Md. Nayan (32), and two or three unidentified local youths stabbed Mohammad Manik (32) to death after an argument over drug money in the Benderghata area of Purba Koinyara village of Parikoda union of the upazila. In this incident, the elder brother of the deceased, Md. Babu Prakash Babul (38), filed a case with the police station as the plaintiff. The angry mob burned down the houses of the AIADMK members.
