Lakshmipur Correspondent: Terrorists attacked and shot journalists in Lakshmipur. Four journalists, including one journalist, were injured in the incident. This happened in the Ganeshshyampur area of Sadar Upazila on Monday (February 3) afternoon.
The injured journalists are District Correspondent of Daily Khabar Kagoj Md. Rafiqul Islam, General Secretary of Chandraganj Thana Press Club and Correspondent of Amar Sangbad Alauddin, Publicity Secretary of Press Club and Correspondent of Alokot Sokal Faisal Mahmud, and Correspondent of online news portal National Press Abdul Malek Nirob.
Seriously injured journalists Rafiqul Islam, Md. Alauddin, and Faisal Mahmud have been rescued and admitted to Sadar Hospital. Among them, Rafiq is in critical condition.
Lakshmipur Press Club, Lakshmipur District Reporters Unity, Lakshmipur Journalists Union, and Chandraganj Press Club, along with journalists working in the district, have strongly condemned and protested the incident.
According to local sources, the injured journalists and the police said that the journalists were heading towards the scene from Lakshmipur on two motorcycles to collect news after receiving news of a fight and land grabbing in the Ganeshyampur area of Sadar Upazila. At that time, a group of 7 masked terrorists stopped the journalists’ motorcycle when they went some distance from Dattapara College. At one point, when journalist Rafiqul Islam tried to inquire about the matter, they attacked him with a sharp weapon, causing his head to explode. Then, when other journalists tried to stop him, the terrorists attacked them and fired several rounds of bullets and fled. Faisal Mahmud was shot in the head. At that time, the terrorists looted the journalists’ cameras and mobile phones, along with cash. Later, with the help of locals, the police rescued the injured and admitted them to Sadar Hospital. Hearing the news of the incident, the journalists rushed to Sadar Hospital. A month ago, journalist Rafiqul Islam’s house was attacked.
Meanwhile, Laxmipur Preclub President Hossain Ahmed Helal, General Secretary Saidul Islam Pabel, Laxmipur Journalists Union President Zahir Uddin, General Secretary Abbas Hossain, Laxmipur District Reports Unity Vice President Habibur Rahman Sabuj, Zahirul Islam Shiblu, General Secretary Gazi Momin, and other journalists working in the district strongly condemned and protested the incident and demanded the arrest of the terrorists involved. They warned of strict action if the involved are not arrested soon.
Sadar Hospital Medical Officer Dr. Kamalashish said that three people have been admitted to Sadar Hospital in an injured condition. One of them is in critical condition. He has head injuries. In addition, the other injured, Faisal Mahmud, has two injuries to his legs. Whether it was a bullet or not can be confirmed after an X-ray.
Police Superintendent Md. Akhtar Hossain said that police have been sent to the scene after hearing the news of the attack on the journalist. The involved will be identified and arrested soon. No one will be spared in this matter. Several police teams are already working.
