Soil worth lakhs of taka is being sold by cutting down hills in the Ghilatali area of Bajalia in the dark of night with excavators. This soil is sold to fill the houses of various people in the area.
According to locals, despite the existence of the relevant administration, hill cutting is going on in various places, including Bajalia, Bara Duara, Madarsha, and Aochia in the upazila. Eyewitnesses said that brick kiln owners are mostly involved in hill cutting in the Chhonkhola area. They are using the soil cut from the hills as raw material for making bricks.
Despite occasional raids by the local administration, hill cutting cannot be stopped in the Chhonkhola area of Aochia. Unscrupulous people are cutting soil freely from the hills, and the balance of nature is being lost, and biodiversity is also being threatened. Locals believe that it is essential to take legal action against hill cutters. Conscious circles believe that due to the administration’s indifference, hill cutters have become more reckless day by day.
