The Crime Desk: A train and a truck loaded with grain collided in Sarishabari, Jamalpur. The incident took place at around 4:30 am on Wednesday (January 8) at the Talukder Bari intersection in the municipal area. During the collision, the truck broke into pieces and fell into various ditches on both sides of the railway line. Four people, including the train driver, truck driver, and assistant, were seriously injured in the incident. The injured are train locomaster Shamsul Haque, assistant locomaster (name not available), truck driver Majnu Mia, and his assistant (helper) Mahar Hossain. The train driver was treated locally, and two people, including the seriously injured truck driver and assistant, were rescued and first taken to Bhuapur Upazila Health Complex in Tangail, after which the doctor on duty sent them to Tangail District Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment.

According to Sarishabari Fire Service and local sources, the Mymensingh Express 38 down train, bound for Chittagong from Bhuapur station, was heading towards Sarishabari from Boyra station at 4:45 am on Wednesday. On the way, while crossing the Talukder Bari rail crossing, a truck carrying Ghorash Palash urea fertilizer coming from the east came up on the line and collided head-on with the train. Later, the train pulled the truck about 200 meters away, and the driver was able to bring the train under control.

At that time, the truck was twisted and scattered in various places. In this incident, part of the locomotive in front of the train broke. The loud noise of the train and the truck created panic in the area, and a crowd of thousands of people gathered instantly.

Meanwhile, at around 11 am, with the help of District BNP President Faridul Kabir Talukder Shamim, the train and traffic movement were normalized by removing the damaged part of the truck from the line with the help of fire service personnel and locals. The incident closed the Sarishabari-Tarakandi main road for about 6 hours. Locals said that the accident occurred because the gateman was sleeping.

Local AKM Faizul Kabir Talukder Shahin said that there was a signal at the railway crossing, but the accident occurred due to the gateman’s negligence. The train’s passengers were saved because the train driver was skilled.

Train locomotive Shamsul Haque said that there was light fog at around 4:40 am; there is a gateman at this crossing. The crossing gate was open because the gateman was sleeping. While the train was crossing the railway crossing at normal speed, a truck suddenly came in front of the train, and a collision occurred. At that time, my finger was cut off in my mouth.

BN Faridul Kabir Talukder Shamim said that this incident occurred in front of my house. There was such a terrible noise in the morning that it seemed like the sound was inside the house. Then I came out of the house and saw the broken front part of a truck lying in front of the train. Allah Almighty has protected the locals and train passengers living near the railway line from any major danger. Later, with the help of locals and fire service personnel, the accident-hit truck was moved, and the train and traffic movement was normalized.

In this regard, Jamalpur Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rabiul Islam said, I came to know about the accident from the Dhaka Railway Control Office early in the morning.

Later, I visited the scene with the help of the Sarishabari Police Station. The accident occurred due to the negligence of the gateman. Necessary measures will be taken after looking into the matter.
