Lakshmipur Correspondent: A youth was beaten to death in Lakshmipur Raipur on suspicion of battery theft. The incident took place in Kanchanpur of the upazila on Monday (January 6) morning. The deceased, Abul Kalam, is the son of Chanaula Patwari of Kanchanpur village. His body has been kept at the Raipur Upazila Health Complex.
The deceased’s family alleged that Kalam was picked up from his rented house in Haiderganj on Sunday night by miscreants. Then a man named Jisan took him away in a microbus with a group. At that time, they intimidated the family members. Finally, on Monday morning, Kalam was found injured in a garden in Kanchanpur. He was then rescued and died on the way to the Upazila Health Complex.
The deceased’s wife, Rehana, alleged that while picking him up, they told her that my husband had stolen the battery of a CNG autorickshaw, so they were arresting him. He was tied up in the garden and tortured throughout the night. My husband asked for water,s beaten up in the morning too. but they did not give him water. He was beaten up in the morning too. At one point he died.
Meanwhile, local sources have informed us that a person named Masud had his battery stolen in that area two days ago. Abul Kalam was arrested on that charge. He died on Monday morning after being beaten up by miscreants.
Raipur Police Station OC Md. Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan said that a police team was sent around 11 am on Monday after receiving information that a person had been lynched on the charge of stealing a battery. The police arrived and found that the injured person had died. Those involved in the incident will be identified and brought to justice.
