The Crime Desk: Security has been beefed up in Kakrail Mosque and the Dhaka Medical area following clashes between two groups over the occupation of the Ijtema ground in Tongi.
The injured have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after the clash over the occupation of the Ijtema ground. RAB-3 has beefed up security in the Kakrail Mosque and Dhaka Medical area to prevent any untoward situation. RAB-3 gave this information in a press release on Wednesday (December 18). Along with this, 4 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed to control the situation in Tongi on Wednesday (December 18) morning.
Earlier, 3 people were killed in a clash between two groups of devotees at the Bishwa Ijtema ground in Tongi, Gazipur. At least 35 people are receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital after being injured in the incident. The devotees said that the Jor Ijtema is scheduled to start from December 20. On that occasion, devotees started coming to the Bishwa Ijtema ground in Tongi.
On Tuesday (December 17), around 2:30 am, a group of devotees entered the ground and created a disturbance. A scuffle broke out. At one point, they got into a clash. Many devotees from both sides were injured.
The injured were rescued and first taken to Tongi Ahsanullah Medical College Hospital. From there, the seriously injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College. At that time, the doctor declared one Belal Hossain dead.
The deceased were Bachchu Mia (70), a resident of Egarsindu village under Pakundia police station in Kishoreganj district, and Belal (60) and Belal Hossain (55) from the Beraid area of Dakshinkhan, Dhaka.
There were intermittent clashes between the two groups of devotees at the hospital since morning. Additional police and army presence was also observed there for security.
