The Crime Desk: The task force formed to prevent air pollution has decided to sprinkle water on marked roads every day to control dust.
This decision was made at the first meeting of the task force formed to prevent air pollution in Dhaka and its surrounding areas during the dry season at the conference room of the Local Government Department at the Secretariat on Tuesday.
The meeting was chaired by the convener of the task force and secretary (routine responsibilities) of the local government department, Md. Nazrul Islam.
The meeting also decided to determine and implement immediate steps to prevent air pollution, repair construction materials left open on various roads of Dhaka, and punish those responsible.
The meeting decided to identify open road divisions and cover the soil with greenery, ensure the undercarriage and surface of trucks transporting sand, cement, and bricks, and ensure traffic surveillance at all entrances to Dhaka, identify industrial establishments to prevent air pollution, and take measures to prevent pollution, and impose restrictions on the identified establishments responsible for air pollution.
It was decided to ensure preventive measures and coordination in construction and repair work at the government level, disseminate necessary warning messages to protect public health from the outbreak of air pollution, involve students and locals in air pollution control activities, and take measures against all unfit and polluting vehicles.
It has been asked to submit a progress report to the ministry every 15 days. Top officials of all relevant organizations and institutions of Dhaka were present at the meeting.
