Rajshahi Correspondent: An accused of rape and murder case was executed in Rajshahi Central Jail. On Wednesday (November 30) at 10:01 p.m., the accused named Rakibar alias Akibar was hanged. Rakibar was a resident of Nimtala village in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi. Rajshahi Central Jail Senior Jail Superintendent Abdul Jalil confirmed this information.
He said that Rakibar was incarcerated in Rajshahi jail for 23 years and 3 months. He was hanged on Wednesday night after all the legal procedures.
According to prison sources, after the evening of June 2, 1999, a young woman named Morsheda Khatun was raped and killed by slitting her throat in Nimtala village of Godagari upazila. In this regard, Morsheda’s father Abdul Jabbar filed a case at Godagari police station the next day as a plaintiff.
Then on August 8, 2004, the judgment of this case was announced. In the verdict, the lower court awarded the death sentence to four people including the accused Rakibar. Later, in view of the application of the accused’s lawyer, the High Court continued to hear the appeal against this verdict for a long time.
But in the end, Rakibhar’s death sentence is upheld everywhere. Accused Rakibar then asked the President for mercy. However, the petition for life alms was also rejected. After all the legal process, the accused was hanged in jail on Wednesday.
Rajshahi Division Prison Deputy Inspector General Asim Kant Pal, Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil, Civil Surgeon Dr. Abu Syed Mohammad Farooq, Additional District Magistrate Sabiha Sultana and other senior officials were present.
