Mirsarai Correspondent: A cow gave birth to twin calves in Mirsarai. On Friday morning, the cow of farmer Golam Hossain of Rahmatpur village in Koyla ward number 6 of Karerhat union of the upazila gave birth to the two calves.
Mahmud Faisal, AISP Kawsar of BRAC, said that the two calves were born dead during delivery. However, the cow is healthy. He said that after receiving the news, the delivery was carried out after two and a half hours of effort with the help of local Karim and Mochan Tripura. Normally, 80 percent of deformed calves die before delivery.
He also said that although it may seem strange, the reason for the birth of such abnormally shaped calves in the cow’s stomach can usually be due to genetic defects, virus infection, or nutritional deficiency. In particular, some viruses, such as bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) and bluetongue virus, can be responsible for deformities in the cow’s womb. Apart from this, it can also happen due to the improper development of the baby due to genetic defects. Nutritional deficiencies or environmental factors can also play a role. In such cases, a veterinary doctor should be seen so that the exact cause of the problem can be determined and such problems can be avoided in the next pregnancy.
Mirsarai Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Zakirul Farid said that cows can give birth to such calves due to genetic defects.
