The Crime Desk: Former minister and Awami League advisory council member Amir Hossain Amu said in the court during the remand hearing, We are each other’s brothers. Should be in harmony. We will be together. Why engage in conflict? Hopefully, this environment will not exist.

He said this during the remand hearing in Dhaka’s Metropolitan Magistrate Shaheen Razor court on Thursday (November 7).

Inspector Jahangir Arif of DB Police’s Ramna Zonal Team requested to take him on 10-day remand in the murder case of businessman Abdul Wadud in the Newmarket area of the capital. On behalf of the state, Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Farooq Farooqui heard in favor of granting remand.

However, Amu’s lawyer, Swapan Roy Chowdhury, was beaten and thrown out of the court because Faruqi’s speech was political. At this time, the court was seen in a somewhat chaotic environment. The state counsel calmed down the situation.

After that, lawyers on behalf of Amu filed a bail application seeking cancellation of the remand. Later, the court wants to hear my statement.

Then Amu said, I am a member of the Dhaka Bar, a member of the High Court Bar. Sorry to see the atmosphere here. Nothing should be said in this environment. The case will continue; I will present my statement in the future. The counsel for the state has spoken a lot. I am a politician. It will take two hours to give a political speech.

He said, We are each other’s brothers. Should be in harmony. We will be together. Why engage in conflict? Hopefully, this environment will not exist.

Then BNP lawyers started shouting. They say he is scared. Then the state lawyer calmed them down.

Later, Amu said, We will take sides. Why should we get into conflict with ourselves?

Then Omar Farooq said, When he was in power, what news did the Supreme Court, Dhaka Bar take? The lawyers were good. But during the elections, they sealed the votes and beat the lawyers. What role did he play then?

Amu then said, “The first time there is noise, I oppose it.” I did not come to vote; I boycotted.

Businessman Abdul Wadud was shot dead by police in the Neelkhet area under the Newmarket police station during the anti-discrimination student movement. In this incident, his brother-in-law, Abdur Rob, filed a murder case at the Newmarket police station. 130 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, were accused in the case.
