Dhaka Bureau: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that BNP had asked for two places for the December 10 rally. We allowed them to gather in Suhrawardy Udyan. Now they are saying that they want permission to gather in front of Nayapaltan office. BNP will make a mistake if it tries to create anarchy around the rally.
He said this in response to a question from reporters after inaugurating the annual training conference of Bangladesh Police Women Network under the theme ‘Gloric Journey and Achievements of Women Police 1974-2022’ at Rajarbagh Police Line auditorium in the capital on Wednesday (November 30) at 11 am.
When asked whether BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s bail will be canceled if she attends BNP’s mass rally in Dhaka, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, “It is a matter for the court, the court will understand that.”
The Home Minister said, ‘They have been allowed in Suhrawardy Udyan for the beautiful environment. BNP has mentioned two places, Suhrawardy and Manik Mia Avenue. Suhrawardy Udyan has been given permission keeping in mind their demands. And there is no scope for political programs in Manik Mia Avenue. Because there is a national parliament.
In response to the question whether the government is trying to create an anarchy situation on the 10th by allowing the gathering at Suhrawardy Udyan, ignoring BNP’s objection, the minister said, ‘We want to make arrangements so that an anarchy situation does not happen. They (BNP) went to the DMP Commissioner. They wanted two places. They would gather a lot of people, so wanted Suhrawardy Udyan and Manik Mia Avenue. All parties and major religious events take place in Suhrawardy Udyan.’
He said, ‘Due to the program of BNP, the programs of Awami League and Chhatra League have been brought forward and they have been given an opportunity. We have always said, whatever action you take. Because it is your political right. But no chrome can be allowed to create chaos.’
BNP does not want to hold a rally in Suhrawardy Udyan. When asked what is the government’s position in this regard, he said, ‘They have asked for these places. And Nayapaltan is the busiest road. What will happen if they rally on that road – as they say millions of people will? Now I want to make it clear, if they break law and order, create chaos, then they will be wrong.
