Special task force operation in Khatunganj and Pahartali markets

The Crime Desk: Due to the deadlock in the consumer goods market, the district administration has conducted special task force raids in various grocery and commodity shops of Khatunganj and Pahartali Market, the wholesale trading centers of the city. At this time, eight companies were fined 1 lakh 36 thousand taka. Selling products at a higher price than the purchase price, not displaying the price list of products, inconsistency in purchase and sale information, lack of license and ripe receipt, packaging of local and foreign nuts, raisins, dates, and not writing the expiration date, etc. The company is fined.

Meanwhile, many businessmen closed their businesses and ran away after hearing the news of the district administration’s operation. Especially some traders of Pahartali market have committed this crime.

Recently, a special task force operation was conducted by the district administration from noon to afternoon as a part of market monitoring to control the deadlock in the consumer goods market of the whole country, including Chittagong. Among the eight fined institutions, Deen Syndicate of Khatunganj was fined Tk 50,000, Deen & Co. Tk 50,000, Jahanara Enterprise Tk 10,000, and Alamin Traders Tk 5,000; Belal Store of Pahartali Bazaar was fined Tk 10,000, Satta Poultry Tk 6,000, Shahdat Poultry Tk 3,000, and Mahbub Iqbal Poultry Tk 2,000. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) led these separate operations. Kamruzzaman, Additional Deputy Commissioner (LA), AKM Golam Morshed Khan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT). Sharif Uddin, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Syed Mahbubul Haque, Sadar Circle Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Imran Mahmud Dalim, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate (JM Branch) Md. Al Amin Hussain, and Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate (General Branch) Shahid Ishraq. The campaign was supported by the Directorate of Consumer Protection, the CMP team, and coordinators.

Kamruzzaman told Azadi that people are living in hardship due to the abnormal increase in the prices of daily necessities in recent times. Regular market monitoring activities are being conducted under the instructions of the Deputy Commissioner to keep the prices of various types of vegetables, including rice, pulses, eggs, onions, garlic, ginger, oil, and other daily necessities, at a bearable level. As a part of this, mobile courts are operated in various business establishments in Khatunganj and Pahartali markets. In the campaign, 8 companies were fined 1 lakh 36 thousand taka. These fines were imposed for violations of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, and the Agricultural Marketing Act, 2018. The campaign will continue until the commodity prices come to a bearable level.

He said that as soon as the campaign went, many businessmen closed their businesses and moved away. We were able to stop such a business. It was an egg shop. After entering the establishment and verifying everything is fine, The owner of the establishment was running away in fear. He said our campaign will continue. We will not allow anyone to destabilize the market. Since our raids will continue every day, it will not benefit anyone to close the shop and leave. Must come under the law. We have made it clear to traders: be careful. Don’t destabilize the market. There is nothing to fear.

Mentioning that those who will do business according to the rules are welcomed, he said, I have told honest businessmen, you should do business like you. Our campaign is not against you. We are conducting operations against those who are doing business without respecting the rules and regulations.
