Nurul Islam: A wild elephant was injured after being hit by a train in Lohagara, South Chittagong’s Chunti Sanctuary area. The accident happened on October 13 at 8:30 pm on the Cox’s Bazar railway line. Chunti Wildlife Sanctuary Range Officer Muhammad Hossain confirmed the incident and said that the back leg of the elephant was broken and the spine and head were injured. He thinks that the condition of this seriously injured wild elephant is critical.

The veterinary officer of Dulhazara Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Cox’s Bazar reached the spot on Monday morning, October 14, after the incident and provided medical care to the injured wild elephant. Medical care is continuing, and the injured wild elephant is at the scene, he said. The range officer also said that the matter of the accident has been reported to the concerned higher authorities.

It is known that before the accident, a group of six elephants roaming in the Chunti sanctuary crossed the elephant overpass built on the railway line. At one point, this female elephant, about 10 years old, got separated and stood on the railway line. At that time, the elephant was hit by a train leaving Cox’s Bazar. Officers and staff of Chunti Wildlife Range went to the spot after hearing the screams of the elephant injured in the accident.

The range officer also said that this accident happened for the first time on the railway line after the Cox’s Bazar train service.
