Resignation of all members, including PSC chairman

The Crime Desk: Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairman Md. All members, including Sohrab Hossain, have resigned. On Tuesday (October 8), they submitted their resignations to the PSC secretary along with the Ministry of Public Administration.

PSC Public Relations Officer Matiur Rahman confirmed the information to the media around 5:30 this afternoon.

Matiur Rahman said that all the members, including the chairman, decided to submit their resignations. They resigned together on Tuesday afternoon. The resignations of two members have not yet been formally submitted due to their absence.

An order was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on September 16, 2020, appointing retired senior secretary Sohrab Hossain as the new chairman of PSC. He joined the workplace on September 21 of that year.

His term was due to expire on September 21 next year. However, since the fall of the government in the popular uprising of the students, there have been demands for the resignation of the entire commission, including the PSC chairman. Recently, the coordinators of the anti-discrimination movement also demanded reform of the PSC.

Sarjis Alam, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, spoke about reforming the PSC last Saturday (October 5).

He said, within this week, the PSC will be reformed and the job aspirants will have to start the job tests. The young generation who are spearheading this revolution must not forget their priorities.

Sohrab Hossain was born in 1961 in Chatkhil Upazila of Noakhali District. He is a 1984 batch officer of Bangladesh Civil Service Administration Cadre. He was appointed as a secretary in the undivided Ministry of Education on December 14, 2015, and became a senior secretary on January 30, 2019.

Earlier, Sohrab Hossain was the Rector of BCS Academy of Administration. Sohrab has also served as Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Public Administration.
