Anwara representative: Former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed, Upazila Awami League member Riduanul Karim Chowdhury Sayem, former Chittagong Zilla Parishad member SM Alamgir Chowdhury, and 15 leaders of Anwara Upazila Awami League, including 6 chairmen, have been charged with extortion and kidnapping in Anwara police station.
On Friday morning, contractor Ershad Nabil Khan, a resident of Dudhkumra village of Barshat Union of the upazila, filed the case, naming 15 people as the plaintiff. In the case, 5/6 more unidentified people were accused. The accused in the case are former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed, his private secretary Riduanul Karim Sayem, former member of Chittagong Zilla Parishad SM Alamgir Chowdhury, chairman of Haildhar Union Kalim Uddin, and chairman of Anwara Sadar. Asim Kumar Deb, chairman of the Chatri Union, and Aftab Uddin Chowdhury Sohel, chairman of the Raipur Union. Amin Sharif, Chairman of Paraikora Union, Azizul Haque Babul, Chairman of Zuidandi Union. Idris, Upazila Awami League Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary Borhan Uddin Chowdhury Murad, Upazila Youth League Joint Convener Anupam Chakraborty, Awami League Organizing Secretary Chagir Ahmad Azad, Ayub Ali, Raipur Union Awami League General Secretary Abdul Aziz, and Chhatra League leader Rabiul Haider Rubel. Apart from this, 5-6 unidentified persons were accused in the case.
According to the case report, on the evening of August 7, 2018, businessman Ershad Nabil Khan was waiting for a car on the road in front of Chatri Mosque to go to Chittagong city. At that time, accused numbers 2 to 15 surrounded him with 5 to 6 native weapons. At this time, he dragged him to the car and took him to Chittagong City with the intention of killing him. Later, the accused took him to a house at an unknown place, beat him up, and demanded Tk 15 lakh as ransom. Later, he was released with a ransom of 10 lakhs. It is mentioned in the statement that these works were done under the guidance of former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Jabed.
Ershad Nabil Khan, the plaintiff in the case, said, “After the fall of the dictatorial Awami fascist government, I filed a case against former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed and the accused in the police station.
OC of Anwara police station confirmed the case. Monir Hossain said that based on the written complaint of the plaintiff, a case was filed against 15 people, including former Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury Javed, in the case of kidnapping and ransom collection yesterday morning. Further legal action will be taken in this regard.
