City Reporter: The current tenure of Chittagong Chamber administrator appointed by the government, Chittagong Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Muhammad Anwar Pasha, has been extended by another 90 days to a total of 210 days. In a letter signed by Amit Deb Nath, Senior Assistant Secretary (Additional Charge) of Trade Organization-1 Branch of the Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday, the extension of the period was informed.
According to the letter, the expiry date of the administrator of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been extended by 90 days from 7-01-2025 as per Section 17 of the Trade Organizations Act, 2022.
According to Chamber sources, 24 members, including the President, Senior Vice President, Vice President, and Director, resigned from the Board of Directors of Chittagong Chamber on September 2.
In this context, the additional secretary of the Ministry of Commerce (Director General of Trade Organizations). Through a letter signed by Nazneen Kausar Chowdhury, with the approval of the government, additional divisional commissioner of Chittagong (General) Muhammad Anwar Pasha was appointed as the administrator of Chittagong Chamber, and an order was issued. The order directed to inform the Ministry within 120 days after conducting a fair and impartial election in the chamber and handing over the responsibility to the selected committee.
However, when the aggrieved businessmen demanded to conduct the ongoing member renewal program of the Chamber and create an accurate voter list with the inclusion of new members and to organize a fair and impartial election by ensuring the voting rights of all members, a letter was sent to the Director General of Trade Organizations of the Ministry of Commerce on September 19 requesting to extend the term of the Chamber administrator. . In view of this, the term of the current administrator has been extended by 90 days.
