Dhaka Bureau: The Nursing and Midwifery Reform Council is observing a three-hour strike in hospitals and nursing educational institutions across the country, including the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. On Tuesday (October 1) from 9 a.m., they started a strike demanding the appointment of qualified and experienced personnel by withdrawing all cadres from the Directorate of Nursing and Midwifery and the Bangladesh Nursing Midwifery Council.

Masud Parvez said, “We have been agitating since September 9 for the withdrawal of all cadres from the Directorate of Nursing and Midwifery and the Bangladesh Nursing Midwifery Council by the Nursing Midwifery Reform Council and the appointment of qualified and experienced personnel.” Convener of the Central Committee of the Nursing and Midwifery Reform Council. Md. Shariful Islam and member secretary Dr. MoUs have been given once to Hon’ble Chief Adviser and twice to Health Adviser through Mohammad Nurul Anwar. But we did not hear any statement as expected.
He also said, “On September 24, the government was given three working days to fulfill one of our demands in a press conference organized at the Sanskar Parishad National Press Club. As the government did not give any positive response to our just demands within the specified time, the Sanskar Parishad decided to strike for two days. The strike will continue from 9 a.m. to noon today and tomorrow. However, during the strike, nurses and midwives will be engaged in emergency squads to serve emergency and critical patients in hospitals. Apart from this, emergency, OT, dialysis, ICU, CCU, HDU, and PICU units will be exempt from strike.
