Cyberlaw cases are being withdrawn, and those arrested are being released.

The Crime Desk: The government has decided to quickly withdraw the cases related to’speech ‘offenses’ filed under the Cyber ct. Moreover, if anyone is arrested in these cases, he will also be released immediately through the legal process. The Law Ministry informed this information in a press release on Monday.

Notably, the Information and Communication Technology Act, 2006; a total of 5,818 cases under the Digital Security Act, 2018; and the Cyber Security Act, 2023, are pending in the 8 cyber tribunals of the country till August 2024.

Incidentally, among the said cases, the cases filed due to free expression through digital media have been identified as’speech ‘offenses’ and fraud through computer hacking or any other digital device as ‘computer offenses’.

At present, a total of 1,340 cases related to speech offenses are ongoing, of which 461 cases are under investigation by investigative agencies and 879 cases are under trial in 8 cyber tribunals of the country.

Among the cases related to speech offenses, 279 under the Information and Communication Technology Act, 786 under the Digital Security Act, and 275 under the Cyber Security Act are pending.

The current government has decided to withdraw the cases related to speech offenses quickly. Out of 1 thousand 340 cases related to speech offenses, 879 pending cases will be withdrawn quickly through the coordination of the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Home Affairs. 461 cases under investigation will be directed to the investigating officer for speedy disposal by submitting the final report.

Anyone arrested in these cases will be released immediately through this process.
