The High Court’s verdict to initially appoint 285 disabled people in the quota

The Crime Desk: The High Court has issued a verdict directing the appointment of 285 physically challenged people in government primary schools on the basis of quota.

On Tuesday (September 24), the High Court bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Qazi Zeenat Haque issued the full 17-page verdict.

Later, the writ petitioner, Advocate Mohammad Siddique Ullah Miah, confirmed this information.

Earlier, on January 14 of this year, the High Court ordered the appointment of 285 physically challenged in government primary schools based on quota. The High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zeenat Haque announced the ruling as valid.

Advocate Mohammad Siddique Ullah Miah, the petitioner’s lawyer, said after the judgment that day, “This judgment of the High Court is groundbreaking in establishing the rights of the disabled.” Hopefully, the authorities will immediately implement the judgment of the High Court.

On December 11, 2023, the final hearing of the rule issued for quota-based recruitment of 285 physically challenged persons in government primary schools ended. At the same time, January 14 of this year has been fixed for the judgment in this regard. The High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Kazi Zeenat Haque fixed this day to announce the verdict.

Last week, the Chief Justice appointed the bench for the final hearing of the rule issued on quota-based recruitment of 285 physically challenged persons in government primary schools. On January 17, the High Court ordered the reservation of 114 assistant teacher posts in different upazilas under the disabled quota in government primary schools. At the same time, the court issued a rule to find out why they will not be appointed in the disabled quota.

Earlier, the writ was filed by Advocate Siddique Ullah Mia asking for quota-based appointments of 114 physically challenged persons in government primary schools. Three more writs were later filed by 171 individuals on the same issue.

The writ challenged the legality of not recruiting 37,574 persons from the disabled quota recently. There, the Secretary of the Ministry of Primary and Public Education, the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration and the Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education were made defendants. Md. Mahabub Sheikh, Md. Abu Zahid, Fahim Mohammad Jahangir, Parth Pratim, Shajahan Sheikh, Md. Manowar Hossain, Md. Azizul Islam, Rain Rani Roy, Md. Sajjad Hossain Saju, and Md. A total of 245 disabled candidates from different districts, including Noor Alam, wrote in the High Court.
