Gazipur Correspondent: The workers of Seasons Dresses Limited Garments have blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway demanding outstanding salaries in Tongi of Gazipur city. As a result, the traffic on both sides of the road has been closed for about one and a half hours. Office-going people have suffered greatly. Many people are walking towards their destination without getting a car.
They blocked the highway in front of Ershad Nagar Asia Petrol Pump under the jurisdiction of Tongi West Police Station in Gazipur at 9 a.m. on Monday (September 23).
The garment workers who blocked the road said that the garment owners have not been paying their salaries for three months. What is left is the overtime money of February and March of this year and the three-year vacation money. Despite repeated assurances, they cheated the workers. They have to live an inhumane life without getting a salary. Many people with their families have to spend half-starved days.
Gazipur Industrial Police Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Mosharraf Hossain said that the owners are trying to communicate with the workers.
As a result of the road blockade, the common people have suffered greatly. The traffic jam on both sides of the road extended for several kilometers as the blockade lasted for more than one and a half hours.
