He said this when a delegation led by Charge d’Affaires Helen Lafave of the United States Embassy in Dhaka met with him at the local government department office on Sunday, according to the ministry’s notification. Hasan Arif visited Khagrachari and Rangamati on Saturday as part of a high-level delegation of the interim government in the alarming situation of the Pahari-Bengali conflict in the hills.
Talking about the ongoing unrest in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, the local government adviser to the United States diplomat said that there are various conspiracies from various directions to destroy harmony in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, including Rangamati. Hasan Arif highlighted the position of the government as trying to establish a democratic environment in the country. He said we are working as trustees of students and public workers. We want to build such an environment in Bangladesh so that people’s representatives can manage the state through free and fair elections. He also commented that the support of the United States to the interim government will play a role in the democratic practice of Bangladesh.
