Other members of the delegation are Chittagong Hill Tracts Adviser Supradeep Chakma, Local Government Adviser Hasan Arif, and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Defense and National Integration Development Lieutenant General (retd) Abdul Hafeez.
They reached there by helicopter from Tejgaon Old Airport at 10 am on Saturday (September 21) at 11 am. First, after Rangamati, they will hold meetings at several places in Khagrachari.
During the visit, they are supposed to observe the situation and exchange views with the locals.
The tour schedule includes an exchange of views on law and order with the political leaders of Rangamati at 11:30 am. At 3 p.m., an exchange of views on law and order with the political leaders of Khagrachari.
Earlier, a statement from the Office of the Chief Adviser on Friday said that a high-level government delegation would visit Khagrachari and Rangamati on Saturday.
It further stated that the government is deeply saddened and distressed by the ongoing attacks, assaults, and loss of life following the lynching and subsequent death of a person on 18 September. All law and order forces have been directed by the government to exercise maximum restraint and ensure the safety of all the people living in the three hill districts. The government is determined to ensure peace and harmony there.
All are being instructed not to take law into their own hands and not to engage in destructive activities, the statement said. Taking the law into one’s own hands and destroying any property is a punishable offense. A fair investigation of all incidents of violence and prosecution of those responsible will be ensured. A strong inquiry committee will be formed soon for this purpose. It said that the concerned have been instructed to ensure proper treatment of the injured.
