The Crime Desk: Retailers are not accepting the price of eggs and chicken fixed by the government. In order to control the market for eggs and chickens, the Ministry of Fisheries and Animal Resources fixed the price of eggs at 11 taka 87 paisa last Sunday. Price per dozen is 142 taka 44 paisa. But currently, each dozen eggs are being sold at 160 to 165 taka. That is, the price of each piece of egg is falling from 13 taka to 75 paisa. The situation is the same in the chicken market. The government fixed the price of broiler chicken at 179 taka 59 paisa per kg.
But broiler chicken is being sold at Tk 180 to Tk 185 per kg in various retail markets of the city. Besides, the price of golden chicken is fixed at 269 taka 64 paisa. But it is being sold in the market at 270 to 275 taka. The retailers of Kazir Deuri and Chawkbazar Raw Markets in the city say that even if the government decides the market, we cannot buy from the wholesale market at that price. If the government reduces the price of food instead of fixing the price of eggs and chicken, then the cost of production of eggs and chicken will decrease. If the cost of production goes down, it will affect the market. Now no businessman will do business for loss anymore. On the other hand, a buyer named Emran Hossain said that the government has fixed the price, but now many sellers do not even know that.
And those who know, they don’t believe. In fact, the buyers do not gain even a single penny by fixing this price. Sellers are doing their business as they please. It is important to monitor whether the price is being followed rather than setting the price. Businessmen in our country increase the price of products on various pretexts. Compared to that, the role of the administration is not that much. Market monitoring should be done in the same way as market monitoring is done in the month of Ramadan. Now and then various regulatory agencies raid the market, but they do not have much impact.
